I do like Christopher Nolan and his films, but to compare him to Stanley Kubrick is just ... wrong. He approaches that level, at times (Dunkirk, The Prestige), but Nolan reminds me most of a better version of M Night Shyamalan when Nolan is doing his mind-blowing stuff (Memento, Inception), and at other times, he reminds me of Ron Howard (Interstellar).
I also have mixed feelings about Jennifer doing a Nolan film. Yes, the Lawrence-Nolan combination would be a studio's dream, and Nolan would be a buffer against the Nashawaty-bro critics for Jennifer. Plus, she could be a natural for one of his films. But Nolan can't direct women, IMO. There are many examples, but the prime instance is Marion Cotillard (whom I love) in The Dark Knight Rises. Here is an Oscar-winner giving a pedestrian performance throughout, but the worst--the WORST-- was her death scene. Egads! My sister imitates that all the time, whenever I mention Christopher Nolan. |
